How I Play Montanya

The Scorecard

The 1st

The challenging first hole requires a well struck long iron or wood to make the fairway. This beautiful view of the first was taken in the early morning sunshine in May.

Ist at Montanya

The 2nd

A delightful pine tree lined par 3. Take care with the very tricky green on this one.

The 3rd

A nice dogleft to the left. Be careful not to go too far right as the fairway closes up quickly. Ideally a draw over the last trees on the left of the dogleg is the best option.

The 4th

A classic right to left downhill dogleg. Be careful going over the trees on the left. There are hidden pines that will catch your ball. If you take this route a good high 4 iron should get you there.

The 5th

Long par 5 with a lateral hazard all the way down the right to the green. Keep your drive left and your approach below the hole.

The 6th

A very difficult green on this hole, so keep your ball below the hole. About an 8 iron for most players.

The 7th

Very tricky downhill right to left dogleg. watch out for the faiway bunker on the right at the fall of the drive.

The 8th

Keep your drive on the right hand side of the fairway for a panoramic view to the green. The fairway bunkers on the right should not come into play.

The 9th

Long tricky par 5. Thread your drive to the right of the tree and be careful with the out of bounds to the left.

The 10th

Just to the left of the bunker on the right corner of the dogleg is your line, A 2 iron or hybrid should be enough club.

The 11th

Take your time and be careful with the three bunkers two left and one right of the green.

The 12th

A Very hard uphill teeshot needs a little draw to leave you a good 6 or 7 iron to the long narrow green. Don't miss this on the left.

The 13th

A long right dogleg par 5. Get your ball on this green in two and you have done well. Avoid the lateral hazard left and the out of bounds right off the tee.

The 14th

Time for a well deserved rest in the shade of the pines, before taking on the cunning 14th. A stream short needs to be avoided at all cost. Better to take an extra club here.

The 15th

A delightful uphill double dogleg. Only the longest hitters can go for the green in two. The safe play is a layup to avoid the bunkers hidden on the left of this well protected green.

The 16th

A good drive over the centre of the 'saddle' will give you a great chance of hitting the green and making par on this long par 4. This is the view from the 'saddle'.

The 17th

The longest par 3 at about 200 yards generaly plays into the wind. So expect the odd chip shot. Keep your short game polished!

The 18th

This delightful view will be your reward for a good tee shot. You should score a par on this generous last hole. The green is receptive but avoid the trap on the right.

And once you have finished your round and taken in all the beautiful scenery, you will need to replenish your reserves. Tee off around 10 and you will be back in the clubhouse in time for the best gourmet experience in the district.

So don't miss it, Montanya offers all the services  and you can get great offers on your accommodation at the Hotel Monyanya Resort just a short drive from the course.
